Comics + CARTOONS
The use of comics in medical education and patient care has been shown to be highly effective according to several studies. It’s use in classrooms and clinics has been steadily increasing in recent years.
I am a long time fan of comics and cartoons. My research has lead me to explore how art style effects engageability, appeal, and how these aspects can be used to improve graphic medicine, a genre of comics focusing on medicine and people’s experiences with the medical industry.
Sports Illustrations
A series of drawing showing the most common ways athletes injure themselves. The images span a wide variety of sports including softball, acrobatics, and horseback riding. Illustration techniques used in comics helps add dynamism and motion to the images.
Thesis Images
My research into the effects of art style on engageability lead me to create a short comic about a tragic medical scenario that medical students might encounter in the future. The same story was redrawn three times using different methods.
Space Waste Comics
I worked as a creative director on this game, and developed a series of small comics to help develop the game’s narrative and educational goals.
